Don David

Leaves from the hotel
La Casa De Don David at 8:00 am to Flores by minibus
8:30
Land
transfer from Flores to Paso Caballos by 4x4
pickup, to the southeast entrance of Laguna
del Tigre National Park and the village
of Paso Caballos is a
Ke´kchí
indian community located 80
km north of Flores.
11:00
Visit the visitors center of this Indian village which is slowly working to develope a tourism base
income, instead of living from slash and burn
agriculture…This hopfully will help save these
pristine areas, that are rapidly being destroyed
11:30 Motor boat from Paso Caballos to the
Biological Station. Registration and tour of the
facility.
Noon Lunch
and rest.
14:00
Trek
along a short path up approximately 25mts to the lookout point, El
Mirador, to
watch the sunset over the San Pedro
River. And ajoining marshes. Return to the
Station for a staff talk about research or what is currently taking
place in
the Maya Biosphere Reserve.
18:30
Dinner.
Evening Motor
boat tour of the Sacluc ajoining river and guided by a reptile
specialist.
Observation and chat about the Cocodrilo Moreletti
of Petén.
Day
2
6:00
Breakfast.
6:45
Boat ride to the
trail that leades to El Perú archeological site in the Laguna
del Tigre
National Park.
Disembark
and walk a clean trail about 30min. to the campsite managed by the
National
Institute of Anthropology and History and Visit of the camp. Climb to
the El Mirador
de los Monos, on top of a Maya pyramid.
Here,
you almost always will observe troops of spider
monkeys, the lagoon of El Peru
and take in a
view of the pristine jungle just as described in many books.
Noon
Box Lunch. Walk toward
the main plaza to the archeological site, El Peru. Explore the four plazas, their interseting
wakes and mounds and the abundant jungle life surrounding them. On a
typical
day in this part of the jungle, you can watch at least 30 bird species.
Afternoon: In the
afternoon, visit the nesting grounds of the Scarlet Macaw . If you visit us during nesting season, you
often
will see them flying to and from their nests, as they feed their
chicks.

Return to the landing
and motor boat trip back to the station.
18:45
Dinner and rest.
Evening
Video
presentation about the National Park, Laguna
del Tigre.
Overnight
at the Biological Station, Las
Guacamayas.

Bird
Watching Tour escorted by a bird
specialist.

Departure by motor boat from the Station
to Paso Caballos. At Paso Caballos board
return vehicle to Flores
Noon
Arrival
in Flores.

Hotel ”La Casa De Don David” or to
other destination of your choice.
