---When we finally convinced our tour guide/taxi driver that we wanted to stay in El Remate, not Flores, we were very happy that we didn't give in. This place is beautiful and well worth it. The gardens are wonderful, the staff was excellent and our room was clean. Thanks again, muchas gracias!--- Rachel and Ian, Oregon USA (March 2007) ---From first seeing
this place on the internet, to the friendliness and responsiveness per
e-mail and finally being here, it has been nothing but a pleasant
experience. The facilities are perfect, the garden is gorgeous and the
staff is friendly. Mayra and I liked it so much, we decided to stay an
extra night. Our expectations were exceeded by far, even if they were
high to begin with. Thanks for a wonderful time!--- Robin Boylan
(July 2005) ---La Casa De Don
David was great! I've been travelling for a long time and this was a
nice, peaceful place to relax for four days. Everybody is so helpful,
especially David himself. It made me feel at home. I loved the garden
as well, the food was delicious, enjoyed the menu of the day. I hope
more tourists will come and discover La Casa De Don David.---
Samantha Simon, Holland ---What a terrific place to stay when visiting Tikal! We have certainly enjoyed our 3 days at La Casa. Very relaxing - the hammock in front of our door was an inspired decorating touch!! We also liked that La Casa was very "user friendly" with plenty of information and helpful suggestions about Tikal and other day trips. Hasta luego! -- Jillaine and Michael, Australia (May 2003) --To everyone at La Casa De Don David: My friend and I have traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean and we hold this hotel, restaurant, and staff as one of the most excellent places to experience. From the moment we contacted "Don David" to inquire about lodging we were impressed. Don David's was quick to respond and helpful with giving us information on the area and more. When we actually arrived at the hotel we were so happy to see the staff...so polite and helpful. Then dinner - excellent. It was as if we entered a mom's kitchen and got this home cooked meal. We cannot say enough about the staff and their hospitality, but that is not all. The atmosphere is so tranquil and relaxing, not to mention exquisitely beautiful. Wow! We loved La Casa De Don David and highly recommend it to anyone visiting this area.--- Elizabeth M. and Karen Skrabanik (February 2002) Atardecer

Be sure to visit the village of Remate. La Casa De Don David hotel is located in Remate and Remate is becoming world famous as a wood carving center. Beautifully done wood sculptures are available both on display and made to order. The artisans are local and have a wonderful grasp of the many animals, insects, Gods, and other items depicted in their carvings. Tikal is a large influence on the area, so look for replicas of some of the temples and the dressed figures from the many images in the museum at Tikal. For shopping, spend the day in Flores, visiting the shops. The cloth, carvings, clothing, jewelry, and pottery are wonderful bargains in Flores. Many of the shop owners live behind their shops and are also the artisans of the wares that are for sale. Flores boasts a old Spanish cathedral, cobblestone streets, in a setting well out from shore in the clear-water lake Peten Itza. Boat rides are available for a nice change from your hiking in Tikal, to neighboring villages or visit Petencito (a small zoo) with native animals. The restaurants are generally of good quality and low price, specializing in local fish, chicken, and beef. The town of Santa Elena is a short walk over the causeway back to the mainland. It has mostly shops, businesses, and services you might need. It has several bank branches with ATM's and telephones. The airport is about 1 mile south of Santa Elena. Taxis are readily available. Information on Santa Elena, El Remate, Flores, and Hotels in the Tikal area is available from David or any of his staff. He has information in his lobby on area attractions.
