Especially the medicine plants. BIRDWATCHING- FLORES/TIKAL PETEN Many places have good birding is good along the roads. In El Remate, look along the road to Biotopo Cerro Cahui Park. A two hr, boat trip in the evening takes you across the lake and go up the small rivers of Xpop or Ixlu for roosting sites and other birding areas with local guide and explanations in Spanish. (cost $6.60 ). Good birdwatching guides who speak English cost from $40 to $80 for 4 to 6 hour trip. Come visit our bed and breakfast, stay in our guest house and see what a great vacation can be. ABOUT THE VILLAGE OF EL REMATE El Remate is a small village of 300 families located on the east end of Lake Peten Itza, 30 km. From Flores, Peten, Guatemala. Since its location is on the road to Tikal ruins, it is now turning in to a destination for tourists, especially for those who want to avoid the congestion of Flores and surrounding areas. Since all transportation en route to Tikal passes by El Remate, it is easy to travel by bus or taxi to/from Tikal, Flores, etc. Tourist buses from Chetumal, Mexico & Belize pass through El Remate twice daily, and coming from Guatemala City, there are pullman buses and airplanes arriving in Flores. There are 14 or more different places to stay in El Remate. A nice room will cost from $10-30 double, and camping is available from $2-6 per person. When making reservations, be sure to ask and understand clearly what you are getting, since here, as in other areas of Latin America, a place to stay may be called a hotel or bungalow, and may actually be a thatch roof with makeshift beds, with no windows or doors. Even a nice camp site may be called a hotel, with only half-walls, a roof and a locker. Just make sure you ask before you reserve. We here at La Casa De Don David will help you in any way possible, anytime upon your arrival, just ask. Thanks, David, Rosita & Kelsey Kuhn |
